「『真・女神転生』オンラインライブ2021〜オンガクのコトワリ〜」レポート / “‘Shin Megami Tensei’ Online Live 2021 ~Reason of Music~” concert report.

Aetas, Inc. held a live performance of "‘Shin Megami Tensei’ Online Live 2021 ~Reason of Music~" on March 20, 2021 via Lawson Ticket Live Streaming. The concert is centered on Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster（PlayStation 4 / Nintendo Switch）, featured musical performances in 4 parts, 25 titles. This article is going to give you a glance on the concert. （※Photos in this article are captured during live streaming）

The live performance is held digitally, streamed online only. Of the four chapters, titles from Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster is performed, except for “Chapter 3: Chaos (Rebirth Fusion) ”.
Meanwhile, the live is still available until 23:59 JST on 2021/03/27 (Sat) with ticket purchased via Lawson Ticket Live Streaming.

“Chapter 1: The Conception” started with the performance of Title Loop 2 . The band members gathered on the dimly lit stage, focused on playing under the light of the stage display. The performance shows as same as “Cathedral of Shadows”, brings along with the image of the unique view of Shin Megami Tensei. Followed by World Map -Real World- , which could not be familiar with during the usual play, is The Conception, leaving an eerie foreboding with the sound of pipe organ. As so, plays the Chapter 1 according to the storyline.

Game videos are played on the display at the back of the stage. At The Conception, the video showed how Tokyo has changed from the conversation with Yuko, perfectly overlapped with the music. Also, the unforgettable scene of Thor showed on screen during Boss Battle , making the performance a certain pleasure.
　
Also at Boss Battle, death growls and shouts in the original songs are refound through guitar. It could not be denied, such arrangements are interesting.


“Chapter 2: Reason of Creation” is under the theme of the middle. Puzzle Boy could probably drag you back to the memories of struggling with the Asakusa Puzzle. Thereafter is the seamlessly transaction to Ginza with cool arrangements. Normal Battle is the next. Waxes and wanes of Kagutsuchi is reemerged through the music by the changing chord. Chapter 2 also showed a good selection in music choices and arrangements.


“Chapter 3: Chaos (Rebirth Fusion)” involves various titles of the game series. Tokyo, fills you with a sense of sadness. Battle-a2, the speedy guitar is awesome. Battle with Dante, is a mix of classic and modern instruments, where you could enjoy both pipe organ and synth. Ginza, paying homage to the original, brought the SNES-esque (※Super Nintendo Entertainment System) square wave sound. Mid Boss Battle, yes, guitar growls. Here is a lot you could not miss.
　Cameras came so close to the performers, which could only be possible for a no-audience stream. As a result, there were quite a few close-ups to performers’ hands or feet. It is impressive that the filming was taken in a way specially to streaming.


The last chapter came too soon to realize. “Final Chapter: Reason of Music” ran the famous tracks of the story climax one after another. Amala Temple’s quiet tone heightened the tension. Regular Battle -Labyrinth of Amala- takes your thoughts to a faster pace. Game walkthrough shots “Capture the demon Trumpeter and give him a deadly hit” was played on the back during Fiend. Bring along a breathtaking performance and arrangements for series fans.
World Map -Final Area- may give you a hint that the game is close to the end. Followed with 4 titles around “Boss”, Boss Introduction, Reason Boss Battle, Last Boss: Pre-Transformation, Last Boss: Post-Transformation. The live ended with a rousing "Credits". It is hard to say farewell to the world of “Shin Megami Tensei” while the live has come to the end.

In the talk session between the performance, Shoji Meguro and Ryota Kozuka, who wrote the music for the series, appeared on stage. Why they put death growls in Boss Battle? Why does the phases in Shin Megami Tensei III NOCTURNE repeats and repeats? How come Normal Battle had changed in so many times into so many forms? A talk includes the answers had be holden.
