3月28日発売予定の「MLB The Show 23」，カバーアスリートはジャズ・チザム Jr.選手に決定
Sony San Diego Studiosは，2023年3月28日にリリースが予定されているベースボールシミュレーション「MLB The Show」シリーズ最新作となる「MLB The Show 23」（PS5 / Xbox Series X|S / PS4 / Nintendo Switch / Xbox One）のカバーアスリートとして，マイアミ・マーリンズのジャズ・チザム Jr.（ジャスラド・ハーミス・アーリントン・“ジャズ”・チザム・ジュニア）選手を選出したことをアナウンスした。
ジャズ・チザム Jr.選手は，バハマ出身の24歳で，2022年にメジャーリーグに昇格したばかり。出塁率と長打率を足し合わせた打撃貢献度が高く，アクロバット的な守備でもスター性溢れるプレイを披露してきた有望株だ。ソフトボールで国家代表だった母を持つが，12歳でアメリカに移住して本格的に野球をプレイするまで，審判もキャッチャーもいない遊びの野球しか経験していなかったという，“シンデレラ・ボーイ”のようなバックグラウンドを持つ。
しかし，通例では前年に活躍した選手や誰もが知る名選手がカバーアスリートとして選ばれるスポーツゲームにおいて，2022年度シーズンは怪我によって60試合しか出場していないというジャズ・チザム Jr.選手の選出は，かなり攻めた人選になったと言えるだろう。
事実，ファンの間では，昨シーズン活躍したニューヨーク・ヤンキースのアーロン・ジャッジ選手や，シアトル・マリナーズのフリオ・ロドリゲス選手，そしてもちろん昨期に引き続いてロサンゼルス・エンゼルスの大谷翔平選手などの前評判が高かっただけに，今回のアナウンスは驚きをもって迎えられた様子だ。
現時点では，「MLB The Show 23」の詳細については明らかにされていないものの，海外向けのスタンダード版はPlayStation 5が69.99ドル，PlayStation 4が59.99ドルが予定されており，2月6日からプレオーダーを開始するとのこと。ジャズ・チザム Jr.選手の本年度の活躍にも注目しつつ，ゲームの続報も楽しみにしておこう。
